My entry is in too, nothing like making a fool of yourself at the end of the season. Just one appeal can someone leave spare wheels/bike/mechanic on the descent of the Dukes, with my cornering ability I might need it Grin

Graeme, I really wanted to do the race but the timing of me joining the club and getting a racing bike built up has been bad.

I feel I am fit enough to get round the course but I still don't have time trial bars for example.

Acch, I'll just train away over the winter and get ready for next year.

Its a real classic of a time trial and one of my favourites from years ago.

Sorry

Mark,

I'll be spending half my time out of the saddle so wonder if tri bars will be required. There are still gaps there if you want to mail or phone Janette to get a start, I'd be surprised if she knocks you back.

Hi Mark

I am not riding with bars and as Graeme says there are  many bits of the course where you are up-down out of the saddle  as well as on the up hills where bars won't make much difference to your speed.

So don't let lack of tri bars put you off  Smiley Smiley Smiley

mark, i got a late entry yesterday from janette and am also riding without tri bars-dont think they would give me much advantage anyway!
as the guys have said the course is undulating enough that any aero gain may be negated by the extra weight
 hope u get a ride

There's an error in the start sheet - they've got me down as Stirling Bike Club... Anyway, it's all sorted now and I'm off 5 mins in front of Graeme - who I fully expect to pass me before the top of the dukes... I won't be using tri bars either,  I may stop to enjoy a mars bar somewhere along the way tho. It's important to keep your energy levels up during time trials.   Grin  Seriously, I'll need all the encouragement I can get... happy to receive shoves, maybe I can get drafting behind a sit on lawn mower. Also, I'd appreciate a copy of the Sunday Times (with supplements) being made available at the top of the dukes. I can put this down the t-shirt and maybe get a bit more speed up for the descent. See you all sunday.

Good luck everyone in the time trial, it really is a special classic of a race.

Thanks for the encouragement but I will give it a miss, too much going on to get organised for it, plus I dont think I am fit enough for it just yet, I'll continue to slave away in training over the winter, breaking spokes left right and centre....

Broke another two tonight...... cry

What a day for a bike race. 3'C on the DRIVE out (thanks Phil) then by the time I set off it was pretty nice and conditions must have been near perfect. Full results won't be known until tomorrow or Tuesday but think everyone that rode knows their own times.

Hope Tom and Stephen made it home okay as they were on the point of bonking but sent Derek and myself on. Some of the drivers today really were nutters, we got deliberately clipped by a car that had bikes on the back, umpteen squeeze bys and one nutter in a Subaru testing out his brakes and the car following him. Shocked Roll Eyes

Well done everyone that rode and thanks to the Sunday bunch for all the cheers.

Aye that was another splendid Tour of the Trossachs. Jeanette really knows how to order the weather. It certainly was cold riding out to Aberfoyle this morning but plenty porrige, an extra layer and fingered gloves made it delightful ride on such a crisp morning.
For me the ride was reasonably straitforward, I had a slow start but the Dukes went past my wheels quickly and I had caught my 2 minute man Johnny May (ERC) by the top. A swooping descent was fun on dry roads with a contraflow of Nightingale warbling encouragement. Big Johnny overhauled me at the foot and I sat 50 m behind him all the way to the Torrey Forrest road. This was great for me as TT pacing is hardly my strength, but keeping a solid tester an even gap ahead allowed me to relax in the knowledge that I was making reasonable time - and would likely pass him again when the road kicked up again. Sure enough i gobbled a gel at Callander and streamed past him on the climb - such different riders but making similar progress, thats the beauty of the course. He, who has exclusively TTed this year, whereas I've been all about RRs He on a Teschner with disc and an 808, me on the Pinarello with box section rims - we ended up crossing the line together. Thus all I know is that I finished 2 mins ahead of him (he had shipped his chain at the foot of the Dukes - guess it really is not often his TT rig spins on the wee ring) - I have no idea what my overall time was:
nor can I tell you Jasons, Stephens, Lees, Phils, Jezs or Jamies times because I wasn't paying attention to the figures but I can tell you that Graeme was 3rd vet with a 1.09 something and that Derek was a cold and not feeling well on the line DNS.
The unfeasably skinny Arthur Doyle (Dooleys) won the mens event with a 1.04 something from Evan Oliphant (PCA) (who won the hill prime by a corner-cuttin' second) with Jim Cusick (Glasgow Couriers) an excellent 3rd & 1st vet.
Christine Maclean (Shetland Wheelers) was first woman home, Sharon Doyle (Ivy) was 2nd and Claire Thomas (ERC) 3rd.
Alistair MacNicol (Velo Ecosse) who rode that Lammermuirs RR so well a few weeks ago was first under 21 round the course.
If the times seem fast - well they are! But they are extra wee as the course was shortened by a mile and a half due to roadworks.
A great day with a really nice gathering of cyclists past present and future at the sign-on/prize giving.
I was indeed feeling fairly weak on the way home but nothing that the remaining apricots and dates in my back pockets couldn't fix.
There was indeed some particularly insane driving going on - that Subaru driver clearly regards the A81 as his very own rally track and the disregard with which certain cars with bikes strapped to the back showed us was both ludicrous and terrifying.
